Money saving tips: Common myths about coupons

Common myths about coupons.
Coupons have quite a reputation. Depending on who you speak with they are either gold, or a waste of time. There are some common myths about coupons however.
1. Coupons are not worth the time to clip. Well, if you don’t mind paying full price for items that is true. However, anyone and everyone can clip and save coupons which in the end do really save you money on the products and services that you use each and every day. In the course of one day you may not save much, however over a month you can cut your grocery bill by hundreds of dollars, save on household products, and even get money off when you eat out.
2. Coupons are not valuable. Well, if you are an avid coupon clipper, every coupon is worth the marked amount in dollars. For example, those who pass on a coupon for 4.00 off a product, just passed on saving 4.00 in cash. If you begin to equate coupons as cash, you will see the value and worth in them.
3. Coupons are not worth the savings versus the cost to get them. Again, if you spend 2.00 on your Sunday paper, but that money spent gets you 50.00 in coupons that you will use, it has just earned you 48.00 in cash. You can also find coupons for free online as well. Some say it isn’t always worth the paper or ink, however if you use recycled paper you can save a bundle with printed coupons.
4. Coupons are hard to use. They can be tricky at first, finding the correct product size and description, using them in conjunction with sales, and even stacking. The first time you use coupons you are likely to be a bit overwhelmed, however stick to it and it will become easier. You will quickly learn what products you use have coupons offered from the manufacturer, and which are on sale. You will become fluent in “coupon” language, learning what the fine print means. Some coupons can even get you products for free!
5. Coupons make shopping harder. Well, they can, if you are uncertain with what you want to get. But again, if you start with items that you already use and are familiar with, it makes it easier. Stick to one set of products for your first coupon trip. Say, baby items. Make a shopping trip using coupons and sales and getting only baby items. Once you are comfortable with that, move onto the next step. Keep adding products, and your savings will add up quickly. Once you are a full on couponer you will have a great collection of coupons, you will be familiar with what you have, and you will easily be able to match them to sales at your local stores.
As I said, there are many myths about coupons, and depending on who you speak to, you will hear both sides. In the end, anyone can clip coupons to save money. If you choose not to, you will pay full price for your items. Some clip coupons and find that to be enough savings, and even more clip coupons, stack the coupons with store coupons and sales, and get the same product that one person paid full price for, for nearly free.
